The Benefits Of LCSW Ceus To Licensed Clinical Social Workers

Various categories of practicing social workers are required to continuously engage in continuing education as a measure to keep them updated on the current issues facing the society. In order to enforce this, they are required to periodically renew their practicing license. Each of the state however have their rules in regards to continuing education units (CEUs). As for Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW), states government specifies the minimal number of hours that must be spent on this education. Given that LCSW CEUs are currently offered at very affordable prices and in very flexible schedule, it has become very popular in all states.

A licensed clinical social worker is an area of profession requiring individuals to have at least Masters Degree qualification in a particular social health field. This degree should be backed up with thousands of hours in clinical training and numerous exams. Their work setting determines to a great extent the continuing educational units which they can take.

An LCSW should therefore critically examine the categories of continuing educational courses that are required by the state in which they are working, finish them first before enrolling for other courses of interest which will be determined by the area of specialization and work environment. Some of the courses that features regularly as the required courses as started by board of states include HIV/AIDS, Aging and Long term Care, Spouse Abuse among others although the same change from one state to another.

LCSW ceus in general hospitals and psychiatric centers for instance focus on such areas as aging, health resources, mental illness, long-term care system and bereavement among others. In correctional facilities, the continuing education units cover areas such as substance abuse, personality disorders, sexual offense, re-integration into society and general rehabilitation. The ones in child welfare agencies are child abuse, child neglect, domestic violence, juvenile delinquency and others that aim to help these social workers place children in good protective custody.

In schools, the ceus available for LCSW focus to address the common problems faced by teenagers. These include substance abuse, teenage pregnancies, sexual abuse, social adjustment, attention deficit, neglect, withdrawal and others. Every other work environment comes with unique challenges and thus have unique courses designed to address them.

There are various options in regards to LCSW ceus certificates with the majority being very affordable and courses can be completed online. Before embarking on what units to settle for, the state requirements must be considered in addition to the requirement of areas of specialization as both matters in license renewal.
